Saree, the prominent costume choice for most Indian women . There are various ways to wear a 5 to 6 meter Saree and it could be a disaster if you don't wrap it correctly, Please watch the instructional video on how to wear a Saree . practice a few times at home before your final presentation. In India most women wear a petticoat underneath the Saree but a plain short skirt is also as effective.

Lehenga Choli , basically a three piece costume which includes a top a skirt or Ghagra and a veil or orni. In most Bollywood movies you see an actress or the leading lady wearing Lehenga's at a wedding party or other family gatherings. In general the Lehenga Choli is not a traditional dress for Indian women except in northern India but popularized by Bollywood and many younger Indians who are keen to wear them at parties and weddings. The Lehenga's can be heavily beaded or just plain silk fabric, it depends how much you want to spend and if you can find one that would fit your body perfectly. At our showroom we have Lehenga's which are pre made and easy to alter, keeping in mind how difficult it is stitching through embroidery.

Kurta -Churidar – A tunic or long shirt and a tight or a baggy pants with dupatta or veil. This is the most commonly seen dress for ladies in India. You can buy them from any Indian store or check out our collections in our online collection.
Skirt and Choli – This is probably the easiest way to dress up for your Bollywood Party, a ruffle skirt or yard skirt and a choli top, A veil to drape across your body or simply use it to cover your head and shoulders.
There are other variations of Bollywood costumes , Harem pants and Choli, or Indian Kurta Payjama , Churidar etc. Please watch some Bollywood movies to get an idea of what could be suitable to wear for the party you are attending

Accessories for Bollywood could be big beaded necklace and earrings with tikli (chain and pendant to wear on forehead ) to a simple chain with a pendant and matching earrings. Its usual to see an actress wearing contrasting colours in Bollywood movies, so please experiment with different colours and designs.
For Men there are many choices , From the 4 piece executive Sherwani to just a plain kurta/shirt to wear with jeans or trousers, again it depends on your preference, Our suggestion for a comfy but standard Bollywood outfit for men that will fit any party would be the Indian Kurta or mens shirt with embroidery, trousers/jeans and a Bollywood unisex scarf as an accessory. Please view some of our fashion photography below to get an Idea .
For Bollywood dance classes, Choli top and Harem pants , Saree skirt or Churidar are easy to wear and comfortable for practicing or performance.

Slumdog Millionaire a hit or a miss ! 08-02 -09
My cousin who lives in India and is very passionate about Bollywood, he sent me a little news clip a few months ago , It was about Anil Kapoor acting in an English film, I wasn’t really that interested as I have seen many of his other movies that he starred in.  AK had a marvellous run in Bollywood delivering a few super hit movies, but never really achieved the top class stardom. So a methodical second class star in an English movie, what’s the big deal, knowing most Bollywood actors want to do English movies is not a new thing. Then I read the whole print and it mentioned Dan Boyle is  directing  the movie, Now that is exciting. I have seen his movie "Train spotting" , "Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise" and "Beach" and they all are very thought provoking . He likes to explore the other side of  human nature, and not any conventional way. Then I read more surprises, Mahesh Manjarakor playing a lead role . I always thought he is a good director but not an actor. And then some known/unknown tele actors and models . To start with it was an unusual casting.
Every time I hear about a foreign director making a movie based on Indian society ,my thoughts usually are its going to be another "Mississippi Masala" or " Monsoon Wedding" . Those movies were not block busters but they explored the inside of Indian society , There was even an Indian version of Monsoon wedding which did quite well in India, goes to prove an Indian audience are ready to except movies that deal with serious social issues without the dance and songs. So what is so special about "Slumdog Millionaire" , Why there is so much hype about the movie.
Well First of all its a movie that deals with people in Darabhi, a billion dollar slum property in Mumbai , claimed to be the largest  in Asia. The place is a financial hub of lower class families in Mumbai. a safe heaven for anti- socials , gang leaders and thousands of young people who lives there while trying to make their mark outside Dharavi. So obviously the plot is mischievous and very lively. For Dan Boyle he could not go any darker with such a subject in hand. He did a wonderful job with all the actors, portraying a very real situation with his usual emphasis on the dark side of human nature. The actors played up accordingly , some fantastic music by A R Rehman in the background. Clever script , dialog and  a very good PR department , and lastly Golden globe , which created a great interest in the movie in India and the West.
Viewers in the West, it wont be the first time seeing a movie dealing with street kids in India, Salaam Bombay did a good run in classy type movie circles in US and UK in the late eighties, although that was a different India, India with no prosperity , no name in the International circle and officially a poor country. Since then the situation has changed , quite dramatically , Now its one of the biggest economies in the world , progressive and more open than ever. So there is an usual interest to see and explore India among the new genre. Also the new exploitation of Bollywood in mainstream western media proved to be very helpful.
But how the movie will do in India where it was made, I am not sure really, Indians are more interested to show their glass and steel buildings‘, not the slum areas,  Their Big B Amitabh Bachchan gave it a thumbs down, for the obvious reason, its not the type of India that should be shown outside according to him. Well it is a movie made for a Western Audience and marketed for them, Its not a Bollywood movie Mr Big B.
We all have to wait and see now if it wins an OSCAR, but other than that I personally do not see any impact it will leave on Indian audiences or Bollywood and as R.Sippy said " am not sure who the film is aimed at, but it will be a new experience to watch an Indian story dubbed in Indian language."
